Prevention is powerful medicine

Many of the most serious women's health conditions — cervical cancer chief among them — develop quietly over years, with no symptoms until late. Regular well-woman examinations turn that timeline to your advantage: changes are found while they are still small, treatable, and often completely curable.

Dr Siveregi provides complete gynaecological examinations at Crestcare Hospital in Malmesbury, in an unhurried, respectful consultation where nothing happens without your understanding and consent. Nervous about a first visit? That's normal — read what actually happens at a first gynaecology appointment.

What a well-woman assessment includes

  • Pap smear (cervical screening): the quick test that detects pre-cancerous changes of the cervix years before they become dangerous
  • Pelvic examination: assessment of the uterus and ovaries, always explained beforehand and performed only with your consent
  • Pelvic ultrasound: in-room imaging of the uterus, ovaries and endometrium — for fibroids, ovarian cysts, PCOS features and unexplained bleeding
  • Breast examination and guidance on self-examination and mammogram timing
  • Infection screening: testing and treatment for discharge, discomfort and sexually transmitted infections, handled confidentially
  • Menstrual problem assessment: heavy, painful, irregular or absent periods investigated properly rather than dismissed
  • Contraception counselling: the full range — pills, injectables, implants and intrauterine devices (IUDs), fitted in-room
  • General health screening: blood pressure, BMI and age-appropriate blood tests as part of the bigger picture of your health

Good reasons to book

It's been 3+ years since your last Pap smear

Or you've never had one — screening protects you even when you feel perfectly well.

Bleeding that isn't normal for you

Heavier periods, bleeding between periods, after intimacy, or after menopause — always worth assessing.

Pain, discomfort or discharge

Pelvic pain and recurrent infections have causes — and treatments.

A new life stage

Starting contraception, planning a pregnancy, or entering perimenopause — each deserves a proper check-in.

Frequently asked questions

How often should I have a Pap smear?

For most women, cervical screening is recommended roughly every 3 years from their twenties onward, though the right interval depends on your age, history and previous results. Dr Siveregi will advise a schedule that fits your situation.

Does a Pap smear hurt?

It may feel briefly uncomfortable, but it should not be painful, and it takes less than a minute. Everything is explained before it happens, and you can ask to pause at any point.

Will I definitely be examined at my first appointment?

Not necessarily. Many first consultations are largely a conversation. If an examination is recommended, it is explained first and done only with your consent — you're welcome to bring your partner or a support person.

Can I have an IUD fitted in Malmesbury?

Yes — contraceptive counselling and IUD insertion are done by Dr Siveregi at the practice, so you don't need to travel to Cape Town for it.
